Sigurdís
Sigurdís is a pianist, composer, and vocalist based in Denmark. She completed her master’s degree in jazz piano and composition at the Syddansk Musikkonservatorium in 2023, before continuing with soloist studies at the same institution — the highest level of music education in Denmark. She is currently preparing for her debut concert, which will take place in spring 2026. Her main mentor has been the Canadian musician and Juno Award winner David Braid. Sigurdís has also studied voice regularly with Anne Birch and Signe Asmussen.
As a composer and arranger, Sigurdís has collaborated with Reykjavík Big Band, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, Odense Jazz Orchestra, Odense Kammerkor, and Karlakór Bólstaðarhlíðarhrepps. She was a finalist in the 2023 Nordic Composer Contest, organized by the Odense Jazz Orchestra, and has released a cover of I Get Along Without You Very Well, which has received over 120,000 streams on Spotify.
Sigurdís leads her own ensemble, Sigurdís Trio — featuring Péter Horváth on drums, Mariusz Praśniewski on bass, and Sigurdís on piano and vocals. The trio has performed widely in Iceland and Denmark, including at Hóladómkirkja, the Textile Museum in Blönduós, Harpa Concert Hall, and Nordatlantisk Hus in Odense. The trio performs instrumental works by Sigurdís, as well as her songs set to the poetry of her great-uncle Jónas Tryggvason (1916–1983). They also interpret Jónas’ music, which lives on in the male choir tradition of Northwest Iceland, but is now reimagined through the trio’s intimate and improvisational lens.
Though Jónas passed away a decade before Sigurdís was born, they share roots in the same region of Northwest Iceland. Sigurdís views her connection to Jónas and the nature of her home region as part of her cultural heritage she seeks to express through her music.
In this spirit, Sigurdís received a grant from the Cultural Development Fund of Northwest Iceland in 2025 to arrange two of her compositions based on Jónas poetry for the Karlakór Bólstaðarhlíðarhrepps male choir, in celebration of the choir’s 100th anniversary. She performed as both soloist and pianist at the anniversary concert.
